Dr. Cora Powers (@drcorapowers) is a counseling psychologist and specializes in sports psychology. Dr. Powers is a graduate of Olathe South High School and The University of Kansas. She grew up participating in many sports, including cross country, track, softball, basketball, and soccer. Eventually, Dr. Powers flourished as a competitive swimmer.
At Olathe South, she was a four-time letter winner and broke the school’s record for the 100 breaststroke. She was a finalist at the state meet all four years of her high school career. Collegiately, she was a four-time letter winner on the University of Kansas swim team.
Her message to KC Athletes highlights sports psychology’s benefits, the importance of creating a safe space to share personal feelings as an athlete, and developing ways to deal with anxiety.
