Kyle Weems starred at Topeka Highland Park High School before playing collegiately at Missouri State University. During his junior season, Weems led the Bears to a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title and was named the conference Player of the Year.
Weems never imagined that he would spend a decade traveling around Europe playing professional basketball. As with any young hooper, he dreamed of playing in the NBA. “I knew that overseas was an option, but to say that I could think it would be a nine to ten-year career, I mean I would be lying if I told you that.”
One of the keys to his professional basketball longevity was maintaining a strong relationship with his agents. Having strong representation helped propel his career. Weems’s agents took less money on their end to help make sure that he was in positions that would allow him to be more successful.
Weems’s journey has taught him to embrace the grind, and he gives this same advice to young athletes. “Whether you are in college, whether you’re in elementary school, if you have a goal, you have to work for it and just embrace it. It’s not going to be easy.”
